Zusammenfassung:The review is devoted to the key achievements of the Laboratory of Chemistry of Nitro Compounds at the Zelinsky Institute of Organic Chemistry of the Russian Academy of Sciences since its founding by Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences V. A. Tartakovsky in 1971. The main attention is paid to the structural factors affecting the stability of polynitrogen-oxygen systems (PNO systems), design rules for new stabilized PNO systems, and new synthetic methods towards such systems. The synthesis of dinitramide salts, 1,2,3,4-tetrazine 1,3-dioxides, nitro- NNO -azoxy compounds, and other new classes of PNO systems is considered in detail. The advances in synthesis of new types of N -nitroamines are also considered.
