Zusammenfassung: | The physical therapy workforce and its leadership lack racial and ethnic diversity. This qualitative study explores the pathways of underrepresented minority physical therapists to leadership positions. In semi-structured interviews, they focused on their experiences in the profession and leadership roles. Four themes emerged: connections between clinical practice and leadership, the evolution of leadership identity, challenges and barriers, and opportunities for change. Leadership opportunities and development occurred in supportive work environments, particularly settings with mentors and diversity initiatives. These findings provide a framework to enable underrepresented minority physical therapists to fill leadership positions in the clinic and profession.
