Because it's such a fragmented industry, and comics are often seen as a dream job, it can be really easy for people to be taken advantage of. For a cartoonist, that means learning how to say "I'm a cartoonist, and I love drawing giant robots," instead of "I'm an aspiring cartoonist; I'm not very good."
