Possible causes of crack formation in the VPT-1400 lens compensator of the turbine unit

This article discusses the results of a study of possible causes of crack formation in the equipment of a gas pumping turbine unit. During a routine inspection, there was discovered a violation in the technological process. Identified cracks in the compensator metal were submitted for laboratory testing. Using fractographic research, analysis of the chemical composition and hardness measurements, it was established that the cause of crack formation was the replacement of material and the lack of heat treatment after welding.
