Characteristics, management and mortality of elderly patients with COVID-19 in intensive care at Hospital de Clínicas. San Lorenzo, Paraguay

Age and the presence of comorbidities were associated with a higher risk of complications and death related to COVID-19. In this group, mostly acute respiratory distress syndrome was observed requiring mechanical ventilation and unfavorable outcome. We performed an observational, retrospective, cross-sectional study with an analytical component. Patients >60 years of age with COVID-19 were included, variables studied: sociodemographic, comorbidities, severity scores, days of hospitalization, oxygenation status, oxygen therapy used, laboratory data and complications. The variables that were significant in the bivariate analysis, were included in the multivariate analysis by logistic regression. Those with a significance level p
