Zusammenfassung: | During the Cold War, especially in the process of negotiations on the normalization of diplomatic relations between China and Japan, Diaoyu Islands dispute was mainly recognized and handled as an issue of territorial sovereignty. The Taiwan issue, on the other hand, is a matter of political principle of "one China" principle. However, after the Cold War, with the rise of China and the implementation of the strategy of building China into a maritime power, the Diaoyu Islands located off the coast of China and Japan as well as Taiwan, which is regarded by Japan as the key to sea transportation corridor, have gradually been given more connotations of "security" by Japan. Its extension line is the release of the Japanese version of the "Indo-Pacific Strategy." All of the above marks a major "transmutation" in Japan's maritime strategy toward China after the Cold War and has had a profound impact on bilateral relations.
