Zusammenfassung:In April 2000, guidelines were provided to establish harbor safety committees throughout the United States. The Coast Guard recognized the effectiveness of these committees in addressing challenges and enhancing the safety of the Marine Transportation System. The Port of New York and New Jersey already had a well-established committee due to the unique and complex nature of the port. This committee has continuously influenced improvements to the safety and efficiency of the East Coast's largest seaport. The port is located in a densely populated area and is home to iconic destinations. The Kill Van Kull waterway, which is crucial for trade, requires close management and coordination. The port regularly receives large container ships.
