Zusammenfassung: | The article focuses on B2 learners’ perception and experiences of writing in Polish as a foreign language. It presents the results of a questionnaire survey of 55 foreigners studying Polish at the upper intermediate level at the Jagiellonian University. The study shows that outside the classroom most participants do not write in Polish very often and the texts they produce most frequently are SMS texts and instant messages. The vast majority of the respondents, however, deem it important to develop good writing skills in Polish because of their academic and professional plans. Participants who find writing in Polish moderately difficult typically focus on grammar errors and deem limited vocabulary range as a common problem. The article concludes with a discussion of the results and implications for teaching, particularly the need to convey to learners the importance of pragmatic and sociolinguistic dimensions of written texts. |
