Upset Forging Temperature Effect on Structure and Tribological Properties of Sintered Al–7Fe–38Sn Alloy

The paper focuses on upset forging of the sintered Al–7Fe–38Sn alloy in a closed mold and the process temperature, both affecting its structure and tribological properties. The Al–7Fe–38Sn composite consists of the hard (Al 3 Fe) and soft (Sn) phases in 17 and 20 volume fractions, respectively. It i...

Zusammenfassung:The paper focuses on upset forging of the sintered Al–7Fe–38Sn alloy in a closed mold and the process temperature, both affecting its structure and tribological properties. The Al–7Fe–38Sn composite consists of the hard (Al 3 Fe) and soft (Sn) phases in 17 and 20 volume fractions, respectively. It is found that ≤250°C forging has a negative effect on the composite plasticity, whereas at 300°C, the plasticity restores and even grows after multiple compression. Tensile strength of the composite remains stable and is ~130 MPa. It is found that Al 3 Fe phase particles intensively dissolve during heating up to the forging temperature in the presence of liquid tin.
