Subtropical anemonefish Amphiprion latezonatus recorded in two additional host sea anemone species

Repeated observations over 5 years from June 2008 to 2013 at Cook Island (28.1945 S, 153.5761 E), NSW, revealed an adult-sized A. latezonatus (TL ~10 cm) occupying S. gigantea at 12 m depth (Fig. 1c). While unoccupied E. quadricolor and H. crispa were found at the site, these were in shallower water...

Zusammenfassung:Repeated observations over 5 years from June 2008 to 2013 at Cook Island (28.1945 S, 153.5761 E), NSW, revealed an adult-sized A. latezonatus (TL ~10 cm) occupying S. gigantea at 12 m depth (Fig. 1c). While unoccupied E. quadricolor and H. crispa were found at the site, these were in shallower water and may not have provided suitable habitat as A. latezonatus tends to prefer deeper water (Scott et al. 2011). If the latter is the case, this anemonefish may be able to adapt to alternate hosts if they become available, which is potentially foreseeable as changing ocean circulation patterns and increased seawater temperatures associated with climate change may facilitate species range shifts.
