EL LARGO SIGLO XIX DE LOS CHIQUITANOS EN MATO GROSSO. ESTUDIO DE ETNOHISTORIA SITUACIONAL 1

With the aim of knowing the migratory path of the indigenous Chiquitanos in Mato Grosso throughout the 19th century, this article presents the results of a prospective inquiry into two typical 19th-century documents: travellers' accounts and official reports. Based on a methodology and a heuristic inspired by the extended case method of the Manchester School, but adapted to the written evidence studied, the social structures and situations in which Chiquitanos were registered in Mato Grosso throughout the period under review are described chronologically and comprehensively analyzed.
