Zusammenfassung:A smartphone is a cellular telephone with added features like an inbuilt computer and other countenances that include a web browser, an operating system and has the capability to run software related applications. Temperament, the character or nature or quality of a person, especially as it affects the way he/she behaves/feels, is principally the personality of a person that notably fakes his/her behavior or feelings. Problematic smartphone use (PSU) is a form of psychological or behavioral enslavement on smartphones, which is becoming more ubiquitous among school going children, due to compulsive use of smartphones due to covid 19 crisis, for academic purposes which principals to the problematic use of smartphones. This analytical crosssectional study (n=100) aimed to assess the temperament of children in relation to the duration of smartphone use among school going children of age between 9–15 years at Mangalampet, Cuddalore District, Tamilnadu, India, based on early adolescent temperament questionnaire. There was a significant association between the duration of smartphone use and the temperament scores (p=0.001), clinching that as the duration of smartphone use (in hours) increases, the positive temperament score decreases, and negative temperament score increases substantially, thus proving the negative correlation between temperament and duration of smartphone use. Hence it was evidenced that the duration of smartphone use has a great bang on the temperament development of the early adolescent children.
