Zusammenfassung:Background: In the management of management of lower calyceal renal stone, various minimally invasive modalities are described for this, like shockwave lithotripsy (SWL), percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL), and retrograde intrarenal surgery (RIRS). Present study was aimed to compare ESWL versus PCNL for the management of lower calyceal renal stone of size 0.5 to 2 cm, at a tertiary hospital. Material and Methods: Present study was prospective, comparative study, conducted in patients of either gender, age > 3years, diagnosed to have lower calyx renal stone of size 0.5 -2cm. Stone size 0.5 cm to 2 cm and Hounsfield unit less than 1000 underwent extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy (ESWL). While stone size 0.5 cm to 2 cm and Hounsfield unit more than 1000 underwent percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL). Results: In present study 35 patients were included, mean age was 40.34 ± 11.62 years. Most of the patients belongs to the age group of 31-40 years (25.71 %), followed by 2130 years (25.71 %). Male (51.42 %) were more than female (48.57 %), male: female ratio was 1.06:1. Most of our male patients were belong to the age group of 21-30 yrs (27.78 %). While, most of our female patients belong to the age group of 31 to 40 years and 51- 60 years (29.41% each). In our study, out of 35 patient’s, right sided renal stones were 60 % and left sided renal stone were 40 %. 18 cases underwent (51.42 %), while 17 cases underwent PCNL (48.57%). 94.44 % of success noted in patients underwent ESWL, 88.34 % in patients underwent PCNL and total success was noted in 91.43 %. Conclusion: In lower calyceal stone disease, male and female are more or less equally affected. ESWL had marginally more PCNL accurate stone clearance.
