TERMINALIA CATAPPA LINN.: A TREASURY OF PHARMACOLOGICAL BENEFITS

Terminalia catappa Linn., a member of the Combretaceae family, is well-known plant knoewn for its edible parts, including fruit, bark, leaves, and roots. Numerous phytoconstituents such as gallic acid, ellagic acid, corilagin, alkaloid, flavonoid, protein, phytosteroids, phenol, and carotenoids were discovered in the extractive form of these in various solvents such as chloroform, aqueous, ethanolic, and hydroalcholic. These phytoconstituents were found to have antioxidant, antidiabetic, antimicrobial, antifungal, antinociceptive, hepatitis therapy, hypocholesterolemia, immunomodulatory, anthelmintic, antiviral, and antiaging, anti?inflammatory, anticancer, anti-tumor, hematological, anthelmintic, aphrodisiac and wound healing as a result of which enhances its medicinal value. Its medicinal potential is enhanced due to the presence of these diverse phytoconstituents discovered in different extracts, which are described in detail in this review paper.
