Zusammenfassung:Bigel are two-phase semisolid formulations that contain oleogel and hydrogel that can deliver both hydrophilic and hydrophobic drugs. The formulation has a number of advantages over conventional semisolid dosage forms, including good spread ability, water washability, better permeability, improved stratum corneum hydration, dose adjustment, patient compliance, and controlled drug delivery. Because both phases are combined, these systems can overcome the drawbacks of both types of gels and have a wide range of applications in the pharmaceutical, cosmetics, and food industries. The main objective of this review article is to provide information on bigels, including types, methods of preparation, and characterizations. A special emphasis is focused on the use of bigels as a drug delivery vehicle for topical administration.
