Experimental Mold for Producing Concast Billets from High-Alloyed Steels and Alloys. Part 2. Testing of an Experimental Mold using a Low-Temperature Melt

The operation of an experimental steel mold with a double-circuit cooling system in producing a cylindrical billet from Pb–Sn alloy was studied. The workpiece was extracted after solidification. Before pouring the melt, the mold was heated by an electric heater of 1370 W electric power. The measured...

Zusammenfassung:The operation of an experimental steel mold with a double-circuit cooling system in producing a cylindrical billet from Pb–Sn alloy was studied. The workpiece was extracted after solidification. Before pouring the melt, the mold was heated by an electric heater of 1370 W electric power. The measured temperatures of the mold walls, cooling water, and workpiece were used to calculate the heat transfer in the mold, the crust thickness of the workpiece, and the heat balance. The main similarity criteria for calculating the parameters of steel casting were determined from the parameters of the casting process and the mold. The surface quality of a cylindrical billet was assessed.
