Internalization of local wisdom in character education

Character education can be obtained not only from family and school but also from the community and the surrounding environment. Local wisdom can be a source of learning as well as a source of internalizing the values of character education. The purpose and benefit of this research is to reveal local wisdom which is the source of internalizing the values of character education. The method used is descriptive qualitative with data sources are questionnaires and library studies. The results show that local wisdom plays an important role in providing character education, especially from the process of internalizing the values of cultural activities, this can be seen from Ngangung tradition of the Central Bangka, Pumpungan tradition and Sambatan of the East Ogan Komering Ulu, also Poma Pami from Ogan Komering Ilir. All of the traditions emphasize the value of gotong royong as a priority character. So, it is important to maintain the local wisdom so that the strengthening of character education as proclaimed by the government can run optimally.
