Zusammenfassung: | This editorial comments on the emergence of mid-bands (1–6 GHz) as the favorite band for deployment of 6G, Wi-Fi 7, and beyond is based on observations on pattern of 5G deployment of major service providers in the US in the past couple of years. It addresses the current challenges in efficient utilization of these bands caused by existing frequency management and regulations and relate them to the benefits of a fundamental empirical study to understand the stochastic behavior of interference and to create a nationwide interference map of the mid-bands for mobility support. The commentary also proposes to the research and development community to pursue the path for the design of a nationwide interference map of the mid-bands to enable the research community to design more efficient methods to utilize these bands and the government agencies to resort to more efficient regulations for these essential bands for secure nationwide wireless communications. |
