Zusammenfassung:Algebra is one of the most difficult topics in Mathematics. Many studies have stated that algebra is hard to learn and hard to teach well. The aims of this study is to analyze the teacher’s view about the difficulties in learning and teaching algebra. To serve this aim, researcher interviewed three middle school mathematics teachers in the city of Manado. This research is a descriptive research method with a qualitative approach. The researcher used semi-structured interview technique to get the data. The researcher uses an interpretive analysis approach to analyze the data. In accordance with the aim, teachers opinions about the difficulties in learning and teaching algebra subjects were examined and analysed. The result of this study showed that teachers have difficulty teaching algebra when the initial abilities algebra or numerical and literacy abilities algebra of the students are weak and according to the opinion of the teachers, students have difficulty manipulating algebra, operating algebraic forms, and analyzing story problems. In this study, the findings obtained are considered useful for researchers to studying on algebra teaching, and teachers to plan the lessons better and improve the quality of teaching.
