Zusammenfassung:It is shown that the triangular Yafet–Kittel ferrimagnetic ordering in AB 2 X 4 spinels in which spins of the sublattice A are split into two noncollinear subsublattices results in electric polarization, with the crystal becoming a multiferroic. The proposed mechanism is described by calculating the magnetic and magnetoelectric properties of MnCr 2 S 4 with allowance for single-ion anisotropy.
