Cover Feature: Unexpected Coexisting Solid Solutions in the Quasi‐Binary Ag(II)F2/Cu(II)F2 Phase Diagram

In the presence of F2 overpressure, at elevated temperature, and despite the similarity of their crystal structures, CuF2 and AgF2 unexpectedly form two distinct solid solutions, (Cu1−xAgx)F2 and (Ag1−xCux)F2. Each phase shows different mutual solubility of Cu2+ and Ag2+ (shown as yellow and violet...

Zusammenfassung:In the presence of F2 overpressure, at elevated temperature, and despite the similarity of their crystal structures, CuF2 and AgF2 unexpectedly form two distinct solid solutions, (Cu1−xAgx)F2 and (Ag1−xCux)F2. Each phase shows different mutual solubility of Cu2+ and Ag2+ (shown as yellow and violet balls), and their magnetic properties are strongly impacted by this seemingly simple isoelectronic substitution.
