Zusammenfassung: | A new fatty acid synthase off‐loading domain. Fatty acid synthase (FAS) usually releases its products by hydrolysis or transesterification. Here, an α‐oxoamine synthase off‐loading domain is identified in a cyanobacterial type I FAS. This domain releases the fatty acyl chain through a condensation with L‐serine, offering a novel pathway to α‐amino ketones that share similarities with sphingolipid precursors.
