Zusammenfassung:Purpose: To design a device to measure the strength of the plantar intrinsic foot muscle as there is challenge and scope available to develop such device. Relevance: The measurement of these muscle will be beneficial for assessment and to plan the rehabilitation of foot disorder. Human feet and hands have some striking similarities in the bones, but the arches, joints, muscles are analogs to each other (except a few), but there are specific unique properties of the foot that make it both mobile and stable to help in weight-bearing. 1 in 10 people will develop heel pain during their lifetime; in the current scenario, we tend to treat all heel pain and Plantar fasciitis with orthotic support like soft padding in shoes or silicon sole, but there is a lack of references to the strengthening of the foot especially to the intrinsic musculature. One of the critical reasons for this lack of literature is the difficulty of measuring the strength of the intrinsic foot muscle, and although the importance of these muscles is well known, the measurement of these intrinsic muscles is still a challenge. Materials and Methods: The instruments required for the study are Hydraulic Hand Dynamometer, EMG (Electromyography) ALERON 201, EMG (Electromyography) Neuropack S1 MEB-9400, Cross Ball, Paper strips, Toe Spacers. The present study was carried out in four phases. Each phase had a distinct task Phase 1& 2 were dedicated to designing, Phase 3 & 4 mainly focused on the instrument's reliability and validity. Analysis and Results: The instrument's design done after two failures, and the Validity was proved by the ANSYS software and needle EMG. The test-retest reliability of the instrument is also excellent (ICCs ranging from 0.97-0.99). The device is a valid and reliable source of measuring the intrinsic plantar muscle compared with the previous devices, which fail to keep the anatomical and biomechanical consideration. Conclusions: The present medical device prototype is a one-stop solution for assessing plantar intrinsic muscular strength, and also, a subject can perform various exercises with the help of paper straps, yoga balls, etc.
