Zusammenfassung:As safety and security are essential for creating successful sustainable communities and urban planning, it is important for proper planning of safety and security measures to be implemented to reduce crime in a city. Crime Prevention through Environmental Design (CPTED) strategies are used in many advanced states to safeguard community members from criminal activities. This paper identifies issues relating to the application of CPTED in City X which is an urbanized city in Malaysia, several issues which were identified relate to the lack of police involvement with the community, lack of lighting, and the lack of CCTV and its proper maintenance. In addition, the paper discusses recommendations to enhance the application of CPTED in City X. It concludes that CPTED strategies which are well designed contribute to reducing crime, costs and, in turn, creates positive community engagements and increases quality of life for residents, making the city more livable. Addressing these issues deliver long-term social and economic benefits to the community.
