Zusammenfassung: | In this trial the Yale group, under Sherwin's supervision, collaborated with others, including Professor Harry Keen of Guy's Hospital in London, UK, to assess the effect of continuous insulin infusion in maintaining normoglycaemia in patients with diabetes. The success of the study prompted the creation of the much larger Diabetes Control and Complications Trial, in which Sherwin once again had a key role. Here he helped to design and develop the insulin clamp, a technique that for the first time made it possible to quantify insulin sensitivity and secretion in humans. |
