Zusammenfassung:An investigation conducted on strength and deformation characteristics of plain and bamboo reinforced concrete beams. All beams (size 150 mm x 150 mm x 700 mm) with bamboo strips as reinforcement in the tension zone havebeen casted, cured in normal condition for 28 days, 60 days and 90 days of maturity and then tested to failure underthree-point loading. The grade of concrete for investigation was M25. Plain concrete beam and bamboo reinforced beam with six other specification and orientations were tested for flexural strength and deformation. The test results shows that bamboo reinforcement with bamboo strips facing each other coated with bitumen gives higher flexural strength at lower age (28 days) and comparatively same strength at later age (90 days). Other variations show lower compressive strength as compared to plain concrete beam. All beams reveal substantial ductility before final failure in flexure using bamboo as reinforcement. Deformation is more than 2 times in each variation as compared to plain concrete beam.
