Zusammenfassung:Based on the data on the chemical composition of case-hardened steels in accordance with the EN 10084 standard, their hardenability was calculated using the H-Steel program. As a criterion for evaluating the hardenability, P 50 parameter is proposed, which is determined by the distance from the cooled end of the end specimen to the zone with a semi-martensitic structure and a hardness of 28–32 HRC with an average content of carbon and alloying elements. Dependence between the gear module m and the distance from the end face L of the end sample was obtained with equal cooling rates in different zones along the cross section of the teeth and cooling rates along the length of the end sample. The applicability of steels with a chemical composition according to the EN 10084 standard for gear wheels of transmissions of domestic mobile machines was assessed. It was found that half of the considered steels (eight grades) with a chemical composition according to the European standard EN 10084 are applicable for gears of an average module ( m = 3–4 mm) and eight steel grades—for coarse-pitch gears with a module of 6–14 mm.
