Zusammenfassung: | Diabetes mellitus is metabolic syndrome characterized by retinopathy, neuropathy and nephropathy at later stages of the disease. The main symptom includes elevated blood glucose levels due to abnormal food habits and lethargic lifestyle. This syndrome arises either due to abnormal insulin secretion or its improper functioning resulting into dysregulation of carbohydrate and fat metabolism. In the present study, several plant extracts and synthetic compounds were tested for antidiabetic potential in rat models of Diabetes mellitus including Streptozotocin (STZ) induced diabetic rat models. The antidiabetic activity was calculated using AUC values through PRISM software. The molecules showing potent antidiabetic activity were further characterized on the basis of target enzyme inhibition of different target enzymes including Protein tyrosine phosphatase, Glycogen phosphorylase, DPP-IV, etc that are the main target enzymes involved in carbohydrate metabolism. |
