Zusammenfassung: | Improved Gaok (IG) and Sensi-1 Agrinak (SA) chicken are the improved local chickens for meat and egg production raised in Indonesian Research Institute for Animal Production (IRIAP). For the breeding purpose, the quality of semen is one of the important factors for the breeder to select male chicken. The objective of the study was to evaluate the semen characteristics of IG and SA chicken at 24 weeks old age. 34 chickens, constituted of IG, grey SA (GSA), and pucak SA (PSA) chicken, were used in the study. The observed variables were volume, viscosity, colour, pH, mass movement, motility, viability, the concentration of sperm. Kruskal Wallis test was used to analyze the data. The majority of semen was viscous and the colour was white cream. The results showed that there was no significant difference in volume, pH, mass movement, motility, and concentration among the three chickens (P>0.05). The volume, motility, and concentration were 0.45±0.19 ml, 79.50±10.01%, 2.06±0.23x109 mm3/ml for IG; 0.46±0.16 ml, 78.33±12.67%, 2.06±0.21x109 mm3/ml for GSA, and 0.41±0.19 ml, 76.25±11.70%, 2.38±0.47x109 mm3/ml for PSA, respectively. In conclusion, the quality of semen in the study was relatively normal. |
