Sodium alginate membrane/film as wound dressing applications: A review

There are several types of wound healing with their own healing properties and alginate bio polymer has been used of several wound dressing materials in order to prevent wound desiccation. Alginate enhances the hydrophilic nature of wound dressing materials to generate the needed moist wound environment, exhibits attractive properties being non-toxic, biodegradable and excellent bio compatibility. In addition, alginate also could easily be cross-linked with other organic and inorganic compounds, and it can aid wound healing in clinical practice. This review focuses properties such as wettability, mechanical and antibacterial studied alginates membrane as wound dressing.
