Zusammenfassung: | This article describes the formulation of a mucoadhesive thiolated chitosan (TC) and Locust Bean Gum (LBG) hydrogel for the application of site-targeted delivery of telmisartan. The hydrogel was formulated using the tripolyphosphate (TPP) ionotropic gelation cross-linking procedure. The optimized IPN hydrogel was characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, UV-visible and scanning electron microscopy. And the in vitro drug release abilities and mucoadhesion properties were also evaluated. The effect of polymer blend ratio on swelling capacity was investigated. The final optimized formulation showed good mucoadhesiveness and sustained drug release up to 12 hours. Drug release from the hydrogel was monitored by a non-fickian mechanism. From the results of the study, we could conclude LBG:TC hydrogel has potential carrier for site specific drug delivery system. |
