PORTRAYING THE WOMEN’S CHARACTER IN THE NOVELS OF SHASHI DESHPANDE

The Indian-born author Shashi Deshpande is a household name in the English-speaking world. Her works mostly deal with the plight of women living in patriarchal societies. The gender imbalance and oppression of women in India's traditional societal structures dates back centuries. They're being denied access to basic human rights, while suffering on all fronts. There are a lot of barriers and constraints in their various ways of existence, both physically and socially. When it comes to shattering stereotypes, Shashi Deshpande's heroines couldn't be more different. Neither the idea that men are not inherently superior nor the idea that women are inherently superior to men are safe under their watch. Novels always begin with the characters. Her books' female protagonists play important supporting roles. She uses real-life experiences to inspire her fictional characters, and she takes great care to avoid writing any wooden characters. The writer does a fantastic job writing female protagonists. However, she objects to the concept of a "superwoman" and the idealization of such figures.
