Zusammenfassung:The smoked fish centre is one of the informal sector industries that absorb many workers. However, many workers do their job without adhering 5S principle and poor work posture. The 5Sprinciple stands for Sorting, Setting in order, Shine, Standardizing and Sustaining or 5S (seiri, seiso, seiton, seiketsu, shitsuke) in Japanese that is a way to organize the workplace to be better sustainable workplace. Awkward posture has the potential to increase musculoskeletal complaints in workers. This research aimed to analyze the association between individual characteristics such as age, work period, and 5S principle implementation with musculoskeletal disorders complaints among smoked fish workers. This research was a quantitative study with a cross-sectional approach. The population and the sample in this study were 141 smoked fish workers in Demak, Central Java. The data were collected using a questionnaire and analyzed using regression correlation. There was no relationship between age and MSDs complaints (p = 0.521). In addition, there was no relationship between a work period and MSDs complaints (p > 0.05). Meanwhile, implementing the 5S principle was significantly associated with MSDs complaints (p < 0.05). Therefore, it is recommended to design a good layout and workstation to reduce MSDs complaints.
