Zusammenfassung: | This Note outlines the labor abuse that migrant construction workers experience while building the infrastructure necessary for international mega-sporting events like the Olympics and the World Cup. It is commonplace that in addition to abusive conditions, these workers lack access to a mechanism that will hear their complaints and effectively issue compensation or improved working conditions in response. This Note proposes a collaborative grievance and remedy mechanism that utilizes National Human Rights Institutions and the Court of Arbitration for Sport, and is modeled after the London 2012 Olympics Advisory, Conciliation, and Arbitration Program. In addition to positively affecting mega sporting event construction workers, this solution could also leave a lasting impact on host countries and the future of accountability for human rights violations in international sports. |
