Meade at Gettysburg: A Study in Command

According to Brown, Meade performed capably during the Gettysburg campaign. Brown maintains that no one could have won a battle against Lee under the specific tactical conditions that emerged there. Since the appearance of the first modern studies of the Gettysburg campaign, historians have been at odds about the Army of the Potomac's chances of success if Meade had decided to attack on July 13, 1863.
