Zusammenfassung:A computer simulation of the bottom casting of a standard cast sample (GOST 16818) of SCh 20 cast iron into a sand mold is performed. The solidification in the volumes of cylindrical blanks of standard tensile specimens, which determine the grade and quality of the castings poured simultaneously with a sample, is studied. The filling of a mold with a melt at various mass flow rates is shown to affect the formation of convective flows and the kinetics of increasing the solid phase volume in the solidifying melt, all other things being equal. The reinforcement effect of primary dendrites on the strength of cast iron castings is assumed to occur due to the formation of the morphology that is most promising from the standpoint of compositional hardening when the melt mass flow rate is in the range 2–3 kg/s.
