Zusammenfassung:Mount Pentelicus is a mountain in the region of Athens known for its environmental abuse, where wildfires have repeatedly destroyed the vegetation of the mountain and have caused damage to nearby residents, with the most notable being the 2018 Attica wildfires that killed 102 people and damaged more than 1000 properties. NB-IoT is a promising radio technology based on LTE cellular communication that guarantees us long-range on low-power sensory nodes, with that particular technology constantly evolving. Moreover, NB-IoT is supported by the newest 5G evolution that enables concepts such as Device to Device (D2D) communication. In this paper, we will present scenarios for the deployment of multisensory nodes in Mount Pentelicus, that are networked with the use of NB-IoT for environmental monitoring and Fire Early Warning Systems (FREWS). A brief introduction to NB-IoT will be made to showcase why it is the preferable radio technology to use for the proposed scenario and its prosperous future with the evolution of LTE and D2D. Comparisons with other networking technologies are included for fire-alarm scenarios and corresponding sensors. The deployment of NB-IoT sensory nodes will be simulated by considering the specific geomorphological aspects of a representative area together with the spatial density of the existing cellular base stations.
