CALIGOLA, AUGUSTO E IL GIOCO DEI DADI PER IL TESTO E L'INTERPRETAZIONE DI SEN. CONS. AD POL. 17.4 (E DI SVET. AUG. 71.3)

This article focuses on the text of Seneca’s ad Polybium 17.4, in particular on tesseris ac foro, which lies immediately before a text suspected of being corrupt and published by Reynolds between cruces: this expression is commonly interpreted as relating to gambling and foro should accordingly indicate a kind of tabula lusoria. A new exegesis of foro is proposed here, based also on the analysis of Svet. Aug. 71.3 and therefore a different textual arrangement is assumed for the whole Senecan passage.
