Zusammenfassung: | Blaine discusses how the three frontispiece epigraphs of important seventeenth-century book, Thomas Randolph's Poems (1640), are likewise cleverly integrated into a dialogue with one another and with the contents of the book they introduce, in part through changes made to the source texts, as was the case in the epigraphs analyzed by Din-Kariuki. Two of the epigraphs for Randolph's Poems are modified versions of lines by the canonical classical authors Martial and Horace. The third is noteworthy in that it comes from a contemporary source, Sidronius Hosschius's commendatory verses from the collected works of Maciej Kasimierz Sarbiewski. |
