Zusammenfassung:	The review examines biomass of animal origin in terms of a potential renewable raw material for obtaining CO 2 -neutral fuel unaffecting the carbon dioxide balance in the atmosphere. Their potential integration into contemporary petro- and biochemical processes is determined by an assessment of the animal biomass characteristics. In addition, fundamental characteristics of the various animal biomass types, as well as their structural and element compositions are provided. The amount and calorific value of individual animal biomass types are assessed.
