Zusammenfassung: | In November 1562 the chief interpreter for Su¨leyman the Magnificent, one Ibrahim, delivered a brief oration at the coronation of Maximilian II in Frankfurt. The present study seeks to explain how it was that the speech was given there, provides the texts of one published version of it, and tries to account for its stylistic features. Study of speeches such as Ibrahim's reveals aspects of Renaissance culture which have been neglected in standard accounts. |
