Zusammenfassung:Liu, C.; Zhou, H., and Liu, H., 2020. The difference of FOIPW between the eastern coastal areas and other areas of China. In: Yang, Y.; Mi, C.; Zhao, L., and Lam, S. (eds.), Global Topics and New Trends in Coastal Research: Port, Coastal and Ocean Engineering. Journal of Coastal Research, Special Issue No. 103, pp. 222–225. Coconut Creek (Florida), ISSN 0749-0208. The aim of this study was to assess actual fatal occupational injury rates and to analyze their fluctuations and trends in China. Based on data of work-related injury insurance, we proposed a method to calculate fatal occupational injuries per 100,000 workers (FOIPW) in China. Emphasis was placed on regional differences based on the Thiel index model. The results showed that China's FOIPW is decreasing, but remains higher than that of developed countries. The regional differences in FOIPW across China were also found to be narrowing. Specifically, Western China has the highest rates of FOIPW whilst the eastern coastal area has the lowest rates. Compared to central and Western regions, the internal disparity in fatal injury rates in the eastern coastal area are more obvious. This study will promote a clearer understanding and effective control of fatal occupational injuries in eastern coastal area and other areas of China, and ensure the balanced development of economy and society in the future.
