Zusammenfassung:Uruguay was the last country in MERCOSUR to pass a consumer Protection Law in 2000. The purpose of this article is to analyse the origins and influences of the Law on Consumer Relations in the Uruguayan Legal System, with special emphasis on the impact of EU consumer law, the MERCOSUR Protocol Project, the Brazilian Consumer Protection Code and Spanish legislation. It provides an overview of the basic principles and relevant case law that demonstrate the current state of the art.
