Approach to generalised alopecia in dogs: use and abuse of endocrine testing

Background: Alopecia can be a concerning discovery for owners to make in their dogs, as well as a frustrating and challenging condition for veterinary surgeons to investigate. However, successful management can be achieved by undertaking a methodical approach to correct diagnosis. Aim of the article: This article guides veterinary surgeons through the diagnostic approach to generalised alopecia. Clinical cases have been included to help colleagues successfully manage similar scenarios without running unnecessary, often expensive, diagnostic tests.
