Conclusion Water is God’s gift given to mankind. Interlinking of rivers, overexploitation of groundwater, deforestation, ecological impact of diverting excess water from surplus basin to deficit basins, cropping pattern, change of food habits, linking of surface water and groundwater, soil chemistry and moisture, sanitation, treatment of harvested rainwater for domestic use and sanitary water for reuse Industries and Agriculture in decentralised water treatment plants are all matters discussed day in and day out in various forums including the Parliament and Assemblies. How to put water science in the minds of decision makers is the main problem facing the densely populated developing countries of the world. When J.F. Kennedy was asked as to why there is no noble price for water the former President of USA, had said: “Anybody who can solve the problems of water will be worthy of two Noble prizes one for peace and another for science”. It is for the elected Government to decide as to whether the project is prudent to be implemented or not, depending on population and water requirements based on a scientific analysis of watershed development and as source for drinking water in drought prone areas of Karnataka.
