Zusammenfassung:The kinetics of base hydrolysis of bis(2,2′ : 6′,2′′- terpyridine)iron(II) has been carried out in water pools of CTAB/chloroform/hexane reverse micelles. The reaction obeys first order kinetics with respect to each of the reactants. In the reverse micellar medium, the reaction was found to be around fifty times compared to aqueous medium under identical experimental conditions. The pronounced acceleration is due to the lower micro polarity of the reverse micelles which facilitates the reaction between oppositely charged ions. The effect of variation of W { W = [H 2 O]/[CTAB]} at constant [CTAB] and variation of [CTAB] at fixed W has been studied. At fixed concentration of CTAB, the second order rate constant ( k 2 ) of reaction increases with increasing the value of W and is independent of concentration of [CTAB] at constant W . The variation of rate with W has been explained by Guggenheim plots, log k 2 versus ionic strength (µ) and found to be linear for all concentrations of CTAB.
