Zusammenfassung:HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) is a safe and highly effective method to prevent HIV acquisition that is underutilized, particularly in marginalized populations. This article describes current and emerging modalities to prevent HIV with PrEP. Safe prescribing and monitoring of PrEP is presented to enable the nurse practitioner to incorporate HIV prevention into their routine clinical practice and minimize barriers to this valuable strategy.
