The luminescence spectra of diamond crystals grown in europium containing systems have an optical center with a zero phonon line at λ = 607 nm. The EPR spectrum of the diamond crystal grown in the Mg–EuF
3
–C system has a new paramagnetic center with hyperfine structure from a fluorine atom. This EPR spectrum is due to a
C
3ν
(or
D
3
d
) point symmetry center and is observed at low temperatures (
