Zusammenfassung:We propose a procedure for the evaluation of the subcritical propagation of fatigue cracks on the surfaces of side frames of freight railroad cars under the action of irregular cyclically varying operating loads with regard for the overloads of railroad car retarders in the gravity yards. It is shown that, for such overloads, the residual durability of side frames with surface cracks may become twice smaller than the designed duration of operation without overloads.
