Zusammenfassung: | Many of the long-standing fault lines and injustices of nations have been revealed and deepened during the COVID-19 pandemic. All over the world, the enduring precariousness of the most vulnerable in society has become more visible and harder to ignore. This has been the case in South Africa, a country with some of the highest rates of inequality and violence in the world. Here, John briefly identifies two major fault lines of contemporary South Africa and comments on how they have been exacerbated during the pandemic. It then focuses on corruption during the pandemic, examining how the elite in South Africa have gorged themselves at a time of widespread suffering. |
